Put a Little Beach in Your Spring

Warmer air, sunny skies, and family fun on the Boardwalk and beyond are just the beginning to an extraordinary spring break at Carolina Beach. Learn to surf one day; see dinosaurs the next; and hike our native marshlands in between.

Ferocious DINOSAURS! have returned to the nearby NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, or be enchanted by butterflies at The Butterfly Bungalow. Special activities include pirate-themed scavenger hunts, AquaCamps and more.

Classic kid-friendly activities abound, starting with Tony Silvagni Surf School, owned by world-famous pro surfer Tony Silvagni, who just helped Team USA win gold at the 2018 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship in Hainan, China. If surfing's not your thing, their staff will deliver chairs, umbrellas, tents, bicycles and more to your spot on the beach. For boarders on wheels a visit to the Mike Chappell Skate Park is a must.

Looking to step off the beach without leaving the island? Carolina Beach State Park offers miles of hiking trails where you can explore the river, marshlands and even spot the native Venus flytrap. Take the park ranger-led Biological Wonderland Hike to learn about the various island habitats. Bump it up a notch with a kayak or paddleboard rental from Paddle NC at their state park location or join a guided overnight kayak expedition.

Visit shops and restaurants as you stroll the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, or simply sit and swing by the ocean dunes. New spots like Carolina Smokehouse BBQ and Jack's Retreat join beloved standbys like Britt's Donut Shop and the Fudgeboat. For a unique way to tour the island, Tasting History takes you through the streets of Carolina Beach and into a few of the restaurants to taste some of what the locals have to offer, or sign up for the Wine and Beer Walk on April 28.
