Civil War Battle Lecture & Two Mile Hike

  • Join Civil War expert Dr. Chris Fonvielle as he lectures, and then leads the two mile hike on picturesque Sugarloaf Dune by the banks of the Cape Fear River in Carolina Beach State Park. Depart from the Park Visitor Center to the Dunes and view remnants of the battle works and the 55' Sugarloaf Dune found today.  His discussion centers of the days following the fall of Fort Fisher, and the Union assault on the nearly 6,000 Confederate troops entrenched in earthworks anchoring at Sugarloaf Dune.
