Family fun awaits exploring Fort Fisher’s role as a Training facility during World War II. Military and civilian re-enactors will set up displays on the old Fort Fisher airstrip, and be available to discuss historic weapons, the life of the soldier, as well as family life on the homefront. The program will also highlight the Women’s Airforce Services Pilots (WASP) program, and the critical role they played in the march toward victory. Guest speakers will discuss World War II topics in the air conditioned theater. Other special activities include jeep rides in an authentic 1942 Willys jeep (small donation requested) and the Toy Soldier Workshop where kids paint toy soldiers and learn about military uniforms and equipment. The program is free and open to the public.
