Jazz at the CAM: John Brown Quintet

  • Closing out the Jazz at the Cameron series with flair, John Brown will be joined by Brian Miller on saxophones, Andrew Berinson on piano, Evan Roberson on trombone, and Orlandus Perry on drums.  This accomplished and renowned bassist, composer, educator and actor performs actively both as a leader and as a band member. He has a Grammy nomination for his musical performance and co-composition on Nnenna Freelon’s Shaking Free.  Currently serving as Director of the Jazz Program and Associate Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University, he has also served on the faculties of other North Carolina Colleges and Universities. Brown began with piano and base lessons at a young age, performing with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra at age 13, and playing Principal Bass with that North Carolina orchestra in addition to performing with the Florence Symphony in South Carolina while still in high school.
