View the powerful bronze casting from the original work of sculptor Robert Merrell Gage, head of the Sculpture Department of USC. This casting is based on the 1860 plaster face mask made of Abraham Lincoln. A lifelong expert of Lincoln, Gage made castings of Lincoln throughout his life, and also starred in the 1955 Academy Award winning short film The Face of Lincoln (20 minutes) also shown in the gallery. This film is a lecture often given by Gage, using wet clay to depict the changes to Abe's face over the years with altered hairstyles, beards, and the effects of aging. Enjoy a fascinating intimate look at one of history's important statesmen.
