What to Expect When Visiting

Thank you for trusting us with your care and safety as you resume travel this summer. We encourage you to travel and enjoy responsibly by practicing social distancing and other guidelines for your safety. With safety concerns top of mind for travelers, many lodging properties are following enhanced safety guidelines provided by corporate offices, as well as guidance from the American Hotel & Lodging Association, U.S. Travel Association, and the CDC that are designed to provide consistent cleaning safety standards. A new statewide “Count on Me NC” program with the NC Restaurant and Lodging Association, Visit NC and NC State University will provide specific guidance and training to local restaurants, hotels, and other public-facing businesses on best practices. Please find on-going updates here.

As one of North Carolina’s most undeveloped beaches, shell seekers, bird watchers, nature lovers and eco-adventurers find a haven at Kure Beach. Catch the Coquina Rocks at low tide for a breathtaking experience then paddle a canoe or kayak to Zeke’s Island Coastal Reserve, make sure to bring binoculars for birdwatching. Kure Beach Fishing Pier is great for a sunrise stroll over the ocean or simply take it all in from the sandy shore. Bring the little ones to play or listen to story time at Ocean Front Park, Kure Beach’s largest green space, while you take in calming views of the ocean.

Take a walk through history at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Museum and learn about one of the most influential battle sites of the Civil War at the South’s largest earthen fort. Walk among cannons, winding pathways, and view the beautiful old live oak trees oceanfront and along the Cape Fear River shaped by centuries of salt, sand, and wind. Hiking the maritime forest along the Basin Trail at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is a great way to take in the sights and explore a WWII bunker hidden within the forest. Pack a picnic and rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle plus permit through SunFun Rentals to cruise along the beach strand at the recreation area. Get up-close with aquatic life at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, one of the state’s largest attractions.

Dining by the Beach

Order to-go, pick up curbside or dine on the patio to savor fresh Caribbean-inspired dishes from Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill or feast on authentic Italian cuisine from Freddie’s Restaurant. Perk up at Happy Hippies Java Hut and try signature caffeinated beverages like Mermaid Magic or Pier Side Nitro Cold Brew. No trip is complete without a stop at Big Daddy’s, a Kure Beach tradition for over 50 years for fresh seafood and steak. Looking for a quick bite between beach time? Grab-n-go from the walk-up window at Beach House Burgers.

Fishing Fun

From surf to the pier to deep sea, Kure Beach is known for great fishing with plenty of options to reel in a catch.
