Wrightsville Beach has more than enough activities to keep the whole family busy for a weeklong beach trip, but (if we’re honest) parents sometimes want to relax and enjoy a few hours of the day without any responsibilities. A great way to get a mini-vacation away from the kids is to enroll them in summer camp. From surfing to acting, Wrightsville Beach offers a variety of camps that will keep the kids entertained and the parents stress-free, so start planning your family’s summer vacation now!
Named one of the top surf towns in the world by National Geographic, Wrightsville Beach is the perfect place to learn to hang ten. Surf camps are available for children of all ages. Learn about safety in the ocean, paddling technique, and proper surf stance and etiquette from Crystal South Surf Camp. Register for one of the weeklong camps for children, teens, adults and families with WB Surf Camp, all of which emphasize the fundamentals of surfing. Indo Jax Surf School offers weekly surf camps throughout the summer, as well as standup paddleboard classes.
Staying at one of the island’s full-service hotels? There may be a kids camp right under your nose! The Holiday Inn Resort Wrightsville Beach’s KidsClub has daily activities for four to 12-year-olds. Each day features a specific theme along with crafts, games, dinner and a movie. Blockade Runner Beach Resort brings kids together with its summer program, Sandcampers Kid’s Club. The camp was recently featured by USA TODAY as one of the best resort kid’s clubs in the country.
Just because school is out doesn’t mean the learning has to stop: Wrightsville Beach’s unique coastal environment allows children to learn while having fun at the same time. The Guppy Ocean Adventure Camp teaches participants ages six to 10 about ocean safety and the coastal environment through outdoor watersports and fun, educational games. Participants get the chance to hold, touch and learn about different marine organisms during Touch Tank Tuesdays at the Coastal Education Center.
If the kids want a break from the water, the Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation Department offers programs throughout the summer. Get hands-on experience in painting, bead making, mosaic glasswork, wirework and more during the week. For the littlest actors and entertainers, Creative Performing Arts Camps are led by professional actor, L.J. Woodard. Kid’s Cooking Summer Camp teaches participants creative, simple recipes with hands-on preparation, as well as healthy eating habits and good nutritional choices. Most camps take place at the Fran Russ Recreation Center, located in the heart of Wrightsville Beach.
