Local Breweries

Named one of "America's Beeriest Beach Towns," ranked among the top five places to experience a "beery, beachside getaway" by CraftBeer.com and listed as one of the Best US Cities for Beer Drinkers by SmartAsset, it's safe to say Wilmington's craft beer scene is hoppin' and only continues to grow as local breweries expand and open second locations while new breweries pop up.

Some local breweries serve food while others host food trucks accompanied by live music and seasonal events. Check out our full listings of area breweries for all the sudsy info.

Bill's Front Porch

Both a brewery and restaurant, Bill’s Front Porch has 13 beers on tap as well as guest taps featuring local breweries. Try southern fried favorites like the pub-fil-a and chicken tenders platter or enjoy a full brunch menu on Sundays accompanied by specialty drinks like a Bloody Mary garnished with local seafood, hushpuppies and served with a splash of stout. Keep an eye out around town for the Bill's Front Porch food truck at bottleshops and other area breweries. 

Broomtail Craft Brewery

Born out of a love of science and the art of creating a great craft beer, Broomtail Craft Brewery offers a variety of flagship and local brews including the signature Moe brown ale. The brewery's goal is to bring together a community of craft beer enthusiasts that appreciate the art of great beer. Broomtail also offers brewing tours as well as entertainment.

Edward Teach Brewing

The perfect place for pirates and pints, Edward Teach Brewing is inspired by its namesake, the infamous pirate Blackbeard who frequented the shores and shallows of North Carolina. Located in the Brooklyn Arts District, the brewery is housed in a 100-year-old restored former firehouse with the first-floor bar shaped like a ship and the upstairs resembling a tall ship's rigging. Edward Teach currently offers 8 draft beers with a focus on ales and lagers from the 20-barrel, three-vessel brewing system. 

Flying Machine Brewing Company

Wilmington's largest brewery is housed in a 16,600 square-foot facility with a 10,000 square foot production area, taproom, two-story outside patio alongside both an indoor and outdoor bar. Flying Machine also serves coffee, kombucha, hot chocolate and wine. On the weekends, catch live music and dine from a local food truck on-site.

Flytrap Brewing

Flytrap Brewing is named after the Venus flytrap, whose native habitat is within a 60-mile radius of Wilmington. The brewery offers a unique experience with a focus on Belgians and sour ales, including the signature Rehder's Red Ale named after local horticulturist Stanley Rehder. Located in the Brooklyn Arts District, choose from a large selection of signature brews alongside five rotating guest taps. The brewery is adorned in local artwork and hosts live music, food trucks and seasonal events showcasing local businesses and artisans. 

Front Street Brewery 

Located in historic downtown, Front Street Brewery is Wilmington's original restaurant and brewery. See behind-the-scenes of the brewing process with daily tours led by the head and assistant brewer and sip samples of seasonal brews alongside flagship beers like the Coastal Kolsch and Riptide Raspberry Wheat. Besides beer, The Bourbon Review named Front Street Brewery one of the Top 20 Bourbon Bars in the South with over 400 whiskeys available, 176 of which are bourbons. Daily tours take place from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. and private, group and tasting tours are available as well. After you sip, make sure to snack as Front Street Brewery offers a full menu until midnight with 25 gourmet sandwiches and 35 entrees. 

Good Hops Brewing

Family-owned and operated, Good Hops Brewing is Carolina Beach's signature brew spot and showcases a variety of local brews alongside free tastings, tours and a beer garden. The small-batch brewery operates on a 3 barrel system brewing beers of all styles with flagships including the Boardwalk Brown Ale, Flip Hop IPA, Donna Golden Ale and classic Good Hops Pale Ale. Bring your four-legged friend to the dog-friendly brewery, enjoy the spacious beer garden or play a round of 9-hole par 3 disc golf at the course just steps from the brewery.

Ironclad Brewery 

Located in a renovated building dating back to 1925, Ironclad Brewery pays homage to Wilmington's rich history maintaining the building's original brickwork and roof while repurposing the original hardwood flooring throughout the brewery. Offering signature beers as well as other local brews, Ironclad focuses on being community-oriented and socially responsible. The brewery also features entertainment including live music and serves as an event space. 

Mad Mole Brewing

Recently winning the award of America's Favorite Solar-Powered Microbrewery, Mad Mole was started by devout homebrewers who loved to infuse science in their craft. While the focus is on Belgian's and IPAs, you can find a mix of other styles with up to 12 beers on tap at a time and cans available for purchase. Bring your four-legged friend to enjoy the spacious, covered beer garden or sip ales inside the airy taproom in which the brewing systems are all visible. 

New Anthem Beer Project

Known for their hazy IPAs and diverse range of styles, New Anthem Beer Project brews unique and fresh takes on hop forward and innovative beers while respecting the process, ingredients and flavors of the classics. With the original location in an early 20th-century stable, they recently expanded their production facilities and opened their second location in the bustling South Front District alongside an airy taproom and space for live music and weekend food trucks.

Skytown Beer + BBQ

Skytown Beer + BBQ aims to brew beer that perfectly complements their array of menu items like deep-fried sausage gravy battered in biscuit breading, Texas-style brisket sandwich and St. Louis style spare ribs. With a five-barrel brewing system, the small brewhouse showcases their own concoctions alongside local beers on draught including Wrightsville Beach Brewery, New Anthem, Wilmington Brewing Company and more. The brews and barbeque wonderland is owned by husband and wife duo Chef Stephen Durley and beer sommelier Hayley Jensen. Skytown beers can be enjoyed on tap or at its sister restaurant, Beer Barrio.

The Sour Barn

The Sour Barn is a division of Broomtail Craft Brewery in Wilmington. Find all the clean beers brewed by nearby Broomtail along with the namesake sours that are barrel aged at this location. 

Waterline Brewing Company

Located just under the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, Waterline Brewing Co. is housed in a preserved 1940s structure lending a rustic and historic feel to both the taproom and production facility. Dog-friendly, bring your four-legged friend and enjoy the spacious beer garden, take a tour and attend special events including yoga classes, live music, Oktoberfest and more.

Waterman's Brewing Company

Both a brewery and restaurant, Waterman's Brewing Company serves craft brews alongside lunch, brunch, dinner and more including seafood selections like a Low Country Boil and traditional pub favorites. Enjoy your meal inside or outside on the dog-friendly patio and attend special events including live music, movies and various celebrations.

Wilmington Brewing Company 

Started out of a love for homebrewing, Wilmington Brewing Company is a unique spot where patrons can drink beer, purchase supplies to make beer and witness the brewing process all in one place. Known for some of the best IPAs around, Wilmington Brewing Company previously placed #1 in the NC Brewer's Cup competition in the IPA category and #2 Best in Show for their Weekend Vibes IPA. Enjoy the cozy taproom or head to the airy back room full of ping pong tables and other games.

Wrightsville Beach Brewery

In a sea of local breweries, Wrightsville Beach Brewery seeks to offer a unique and local touch. In addition to a full bar with 40 tap lines including an oyster stout, IPA and pilsner, the brewery serves brunch, lunch and dinner featuring locally-caught seafood, a variety of pizzas, sandwiches and specials. Each month a different local charity is featured with 11 percent of the proceeds of the "Beer of the Month" going to the featured charity.
