Wilmington, NC:  The new Aloft Coastline Hotel, located along the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington and within walking distance of the Wilmington Convention Center, officially broke ground today. Once complete, the Aloft will join other accommodations and meeting facilities in Wilmington’s Convention District totaling nearly 900 rooms and suites, all located within easy walking distance of the convention center and connected by the Riverwalk.  The district has seen $426.1 million in investments in the past five years alone.

The Aloft will have seven stories and 125 rooms. Amenities will include a full-service restaurant, ground level bar, rooftop bar, meeting rooms, banquet rooms, guest services, outdoor terraces, a fitness center, service kitchen and an outdoor pool, as well as a 7,000-square-foot ballroom. Guests can host weddings and private events on the rooftop looking out across the scenic Cape Fear River. The hotel will be adjacent to the 100-year-old historic Coastline Conference & Event Center, which will be renovated as part of the project. The existing building will house an additional 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

“All of the growth and development taking place within our Convention District is extremely exciting. Wilmington’s riverfront setting combines the city’s historic charm and rich past with modern design and new attractions, so we think the Aloft project is a particularly good fit for us,” said Kim Hufham, President and CEO of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Our walkable downtown, easy access to more than 200 restaurants, shops and attractions, plus three nearby beaches, are the perfect assets for Wilmington to become a new destination possibility for meetings and events on the East Coast.”

Wilmington’s Convention District is anchored by the Wilmington Convention Center, the largest convention center on North Carolina’s coast. A transformation of Wilmington’s riverfront is underway, with recent additions and future transformation coming to the award-winning riverfront and beyond. The Convention District is home to a new riverfront Embassy Suites and the newly renovated Hotel Ballast Tapestry Collection by Hilton, along with restaurants shops and an event pier. North Waterfront Park, an outdoor performance space for events and concerts near the convention center, is scheduled to begin construction this year. The park’s largest feature is an outdoor performance space that will host outdoor events and concerts managed by Live Nation.

Aloft Hotels caters to today’s modern traveler who craves jet-setting style and a vibrant social scene at an affordable price. Urban-inspired design, accessible technology and innovative programing centering on music and food and beverage make Aloft unique to the traditional hotel landscape.

Poteat Hospitality (Laurinburg, N.C.) is developing the property and will manage it once it opens. Clancy & Theys (Raleigh, N.C.) is the general contractor on the project.

Grand opening for the Aloft Coastline Hotel, located at located at 501 Nutt Street, is slated for mid-2020.
