  • Enjoy six miles of protected shoreline spanning the Ocean to the River. Over 288 acres feature seashore as well as primitive trails meandering through the marsh past an actual WWII Bunker, once home of the fabled Ft. Fisher Hermit, ending in an observation deck. Loggerhead sea turtles, piping plovers and other rare and protected species nest along the sandy shore. Popular for surf fishing, four-wheel-drive vehicles are allowed seasonally with required permits. The parking area is near the Park Office/Exhibit Hall, changing area and showers, and shaded picnic area with grills. Dogs on leashes are allowed on the beach year round. There is a boating ramp and paddling launch nearby.
